CFAAC Awards Seven Environment Anne Arundel Fund Grants to Local Nonprofits

(Annapolis, MD, October 2, 2024) The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) recently awarded seven grants from its Environment Anne Arundel Fund to local nonprofit organizations that are working to protect and improve the environment in Anne Arundel County and the Chesapeake Bay. The following organizations received grants: Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, Arundel Rivers Foundation, Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation, Inc., Historic London Town and Gardens, Langton Green, Inc., One Annapolis, Inc., and Severn River Association, Inc. Each organization will use the grants to fund proposed projects that will safeguard, improve, or educate people about the environment.

Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park plans to use the grants to purchase computer hardware and software and hire an intern to pilot integration of a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) into its year-long Oyster Education Program, enhancing place-based STEM learning and Chesapeake Bay stewardship for 3,800 sixth graders.

Arundel Rivers Foundation plans to use the grant to continue its work designing and installing three large rain gardens at the Key School to enhance the property’s resilience against flooding and add new native habitat. More than 100 students will actively participate in planting over 700 native plants as part of the project.

Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation, Inc., will direct the grant funds to support more than 40 grade 5-12 students in Central and West Anne Arundel County with Aquatic WILD age-appropriate environmental lessons that include water-edge experiential learning and STEM demonstrations.

Historic London Town and Gardens plans to use the grant to add 150 native plants and two pallets of boulders and river rocks to help prevent erosion and enhance storm water management in its gardens. A lecture on native plants and their crucial role in our ecosystem will be held and later uploaded to YouTube for wider access.

Langton Green, Inc. plans to use the grant to bring a water line and hydrant to its community garden space. An interactive whiteboard will be used by the farm manager in educational agricultural presentations on the farm.

One Annapolis, Inc. will use the grant funds to upgrade and maintain the existing community garden in the Bywater Mutual Homes Community by purchasing rain barrels, compost soil, and other sustainability garden items.

Severn River Association, Inc., plans to use the grant to fund the 2025 Watershed Student Education Floating Classroom and new Forest Classroom programs, reaching up to 65 area youth.
